## Origin Story
Why This Exists
The Diné Language App was not built for a market. It was built for my daughter, Sugiee — so she would not lose her language before she could speak it.
I am a white photographer and mother from the Four Corners area. I did not build this because I know what Navajo Nation needs. I built it because I listened — to elders, to teachers, to grief that was already here. The credibility is not in my credentials. It is in the love that started it.
This platform belongs to the Nation. Our role is to build it, train the people who will run it, and exit. What is built here stays here.

We do not parachute in. Alex — our Chapter House field partner — is already in these communities. His role is not to sell a product. His role is to help Chapter Houses access $20M in state grant money that already exists for them. The program is simply what they deploy with it.
The current Navajo Nation Council is navigating a critical tension: chronic federal dependency versus a growing sovereignty-first governance mandate. Our model is architecturally aligned with that mandate. We bring no federal strings. No data extraction. No outside authority. Every decision stays within the Chapter House.

This program did not begin in a boardroom or a grant application. It began with my daughter Sugiee, and a refusal to let an algorithm steal her language before she could speak it. I am not Diné. I am a mother, a photographer, and a builder — and I know the difference between those three things.
